December 2003: Panel Participation of Jacques N. Biot in CORDIA-EuropaBio Conference
in Vienna, Austria
Jacques N. Biot sat on the panel in the sub-plenary session on
"The Economics of Biotech Therapies: How should we Measure Value
for Money?" on December 2nd, 2003 at the CORDIA-Europabio Conference.
This international conference is set to become the industry's
largest biotech convention in Europe, providing an International
stage for trade, investment, partnership and information exchange.
The event brought together global talent from science industry,
politics and the media through a world-class conference and exhibition
program designed to spark new momentum and initiatives in the
biotech market.
November 2003: Participation in ISPOR 6th
Annual European Congress
JNB-Developpement and his European partners, Heron Evidence
Development (UK) and Neos Health (Germany) were present at the 6th Annual European Congress of the International
Society for Pharmaeconomics and Outcomes Research (ISPOR) in Barcelona from November 9th- 11th.
JNB-D consultant Sylvie Grenèche spoke in the first session on "Healthcare Planning and
Management" presenting findings on "End Stage Renal Disease in France:
Planning Evolution of Health Care Needs
using a Markov Model". .
October-November 2003: New Edition of Sciences Po Training
Sessions on the Economics
of the Pharmaceutical Industry
For the fifth consecutive year, Jacques N. Biot spearheaded a cycle of
training sessions on drug economics for Sciences Po, a leading
University in Paris. Prestigious participants, including leading members of the
French healthcare Administration, health insurance, healthcare providers,
and senior executives from the pharma industry took part in the
conferences.
Sessions were schedule to
take place on October 9th and November 6th, 2003 in Paris.
September 2003: Participation in the Annual
AdvaMed International Conference in Washington, DC
On September 9th-10th, 2003, Advamed,
the leading U.S. based medical technology trade association, hosted their annual conference on "Global Trends
in Medical Technology: Regulatory and Reimbursement Policymaking in a Changing Economic Environment" in Washington
D.C.. Jacques N. Biot, along with highly respected European Government officials, including Bob Dredge, from
the English NHS, and Georg Baum, from the German Minisitry of Health, provided valuable insight to conference
attendees on the implementation of DRGs in their respective countries.
September 2003: How to Interpret Healthcare Communication in the
Lay Press?
Agnès Cudennec, Manager of JNB-D's Market Access business unit,
spoke at the new "Vita+" trade fair held in Lyon, France at the Eurexpo on September 19th-21st, 2003. Given her previous experience as head of OTC promotion control at
the French AFSSAPS,
Agnès shared insights and recommendation on providing healthcare
communications to the media.
September 2003: Presentation of the
Economic Impact of Alzheimer's Disease during the
World Alzheimer's Day 2003
JNB-D Partner
Véronique Toully, along with national experts and representatives
from patient associations, was a member of the panel in a round
table discussion focused on "Economic Impact of Alzheimer's
Disease".
Veronique's talk was primaly based
on a study, "Challenges in Healthcare Provision and
Long Term Care for the Elderly in France",
published in June 2003 on behalf of Leem and
LIR. This event was
jointly organized by a regional Alzheimer Association and the Ivry-sur-Seine public hospital.
June 2003: Publication of a study on "Challenges in
Healthcare Provision and Long Term Care for the Elderly in France"
Véronique Toully and Sylvie Greneche, in a collaborative effort with A.C.E.,
were commissioned by
Leem and
LIR, two French pharmaceutical industry associations,
to generate a report on Challenges in health provision and long term care for the elderly in France.
The study is based on the analysis of 18 pathologies frequently observed amongst older people. The
report emphasizes the inadequacy of health provision and of social care services inview of growing needs, and
also stresses the lack of prospective studies.
Jean-Pierre Cassan, president of Leem, Dominique Limet, President of LIR, Veronique Toully and
Annie Chicoye (A.C.E) held a press conference on the above topics on June, 19th 2003.

June 2003: Participation in a Congress on "Therapeutics in Elderly Patients" at the
French National Assembly
On June 12th, Veronique Toully spoke about the challenge of health and long term care for the
elderly in the context of demographic ageing at the 4th APNET
congress held in Assemblee Nationale, Paris, France. The congress program

June 2003: Participation in BIO 2003 in Washington, DC
JNB-D was present at the BIO 2003 annual
convention held this summer in Washington D.C. from June 22nd
- 25th

This international conference, organized by the Biotech Industry Organization (BIO), is the
traditional forum for industry to discuss various issues affecting its future.
It is also an ideal venue to discuss partnerships and collaborations.
JNB-D was available to meet with international biotech players
wishing to expand their presance in Europe.
April 2003: Publication of an article on "Market Access for Medical Technologies
in European Countries"
"European Files", a European monthly magazine edited by Laurent Ulmann, published a special issue
dedicated to "Medical Devices in Europe". Authors in this issue
included Ms. Ulla Schmidt, German Minister of Health and Social Security, Mr.
Erkki Likkanen, European Commissioner for enterprise and Information Society,
Mr. Girolamo Sirchia, Italian Minister of Health, Ms. Françoise Grossetête,
Member of The European Parliament, Mr. Noël Renaudin, chairman of the French
Healthcare Goods Pricing Committee and a number of other distinguished opinion
leaders. Jacques Biot contributed to this prestigious issue with an article
about "Market Access in European countries".
April 2003: Presentation of a Markov model at the French Peritoneal Dialysis
Register Symposium
At the symposium of the "French Peritoneal Dialysis
Register ", held at Montvillargenne, France, on April 23rd
-25th , 2003, Anne d'Andon presented a Markov model set up
by JNB-D's Therapeutic Strategy business unit. The presentation,
entitled "Model on Healthcare Offering for the Treatment of End
Stage Renal Disease (ESRD)", outlined the key elements considered
in developing an ESRD-specific Markov model. This ESRD-specific
Markov model allows for the forecasting of the number of patients
based on the requirements of various methods of ESRD treatments
(e.g. hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis and transplantation) and
on the initial treatment strategy applied. Such a model can be
used with great benefit in the planning of structures dedicated to ESRD
care provision.
March 2003: Participation in BioVision BioSquare
On March 8th, as a kick off to the
BioVision 2003 International Conference held in Lyon from March 9th-11th,
Jacques N. Biot; JNB‑D's chairman & CEO, was one of the featured speakers
at Biotechnology Discovery Day. The aim of this program is to foster investment
in the Lyon Rhone-Alps Life Science Biotech activities as well as to introduce
attending pharma and biotech companies with international aspirations to
